There are football boot releases, and then there is football boot releases. What is the difference? While some releases are soon forgotten in the history of boots, there are just some boots that come along that change the face of football boots forever.
On 2014, Nike came out with a very innovative boot, called Nike Magista. While being the first legit knitted football boot and the instantly recognisable Dynamic Fit Collar was catching the eye. Now during this time period there have been many high-top football boot models, not only from Nike, but also from Adidas.
All the models so far are so perfectly designed, but still they have some more innovative ideas to make the next model better than the last one. That’s pretty amazing.
It’s 2017, and there are plenty of different high-top football boots models available on market. To make it easier for the football players to choose the best and most suitable football boot for him- or herself, I’m trying to give a brief review of the top 5 high-top football boots on the market right now. The rankings are based on the innovations, how the boot have changed between the previous version, the design, as well the balance between the price and the performance of the boot.
5.Adidas ACE 17+ Purecontrol
The ACE 17+ Purecontrol might have technically be a 2016 release, but it certainly put adidas on the front foot for this year. The Purecontrol still feels like the perfect embodiment of the Adidas revolution, and if a laceless, knitted boot doesn’t feel like it’s pushing boundaries, then nothing will. I am sure that Adidas have taken their second-generation laceless boot to the next level with this model. Paul Pogba, Juan Mata, James Rodriguez and Mesut Özil are the players, who are playing with these boots.
4. Nike Magista Obra II
The new Magista Obra is better than good. It’s the on of the best option available on the market. The Magista Obra II has an incredible fit and is extremely comfortable. The touch on the ball is amazing. As well passing and striking in the Magista is very clean, and very accurate.
Nike might not have pushed themselves to the limit of what their knitted materials can do. Our time with the Magista would have us fully prepared to think that this is the best we’ll see from FlyKnit… but, who knows. Perhaps the greatest strength of this boot is not how much we’ve enjoyed it, but how it has made us ponder how much higher the bar can go. Overall, Nike has delivered a true play makers cleat in the second generation of the Magista, and it doesn’t disappoint. Players like Andres Iniesta, Mario Gotze Thiago Silva and others are playing with these boots.
3. Adidas ACE 17.1 Primeknit
The ACE 17.1 Primeknit is a great update to the previous 16.1 model. The upper locks you in better than before, the touch is closer to the ball, and with this boot you have even more control of your stinking ability. What more could you ask for from the Three Stripes? Players all over the pitch are opting to wear the laced version of the ACE instead of the PureControl. Mats Hummels and Manuel Neuer lead the way for the ACE 17.1 Primeknit.
2. Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly V
According to the Nike design team, the concept was simple; “merge science with design to build the fastest boot in soccer.” A speed focused boot that provides a quality touch and feel on the ball thanks to a speed rib Flyknit upper. The best fitting Superfly V is on the market and it definitely is the fastest boot.
In terms of it being “Superfly,” this boot delivers on everything we expected from this boot, and more. The fastest and most skillful players are playing with Superfly boots. Some well known names are Cristiano Ronaldo, Alexis Sanchez and Franck Ribery.
1. Nike Hypervenom Phantom III DF
The Nike Hypervenom Phantom 3 DF is going to be a cleat to beat this year, and I am incredibly pleased with it. The seemingly personalized fit from the Flyknit upper and Flywire is very comfortable, while the touch on the ball is very responsive and soft. The collar is comfortable and it surprisingly doesn’t restrict any rotation from your ankle, making it our favorite boot Nike has ever produced. Players such as Neymar, Robert Lewandowski, Gonzalo Higuain, Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane and Edinson Cavani are all playing with this boot.
